About the Westwood Branch: Built in 1870, the structure at 3207 Hoover Avenue first was a school, then a church. In 1938 it was remodeled and opened as the Westwood Branch Library. A children's department was added in 1943. An adjacent structure, added in 1950, houses Outreach Services including the Bookmobile and Homebound delivery vans. The library's strongest attribute today is its African-American history and literature collection in both juvenile and adult materials.
