Passing Issue 40 is a huge milestone for the users of the Dayton Metro Library! I want to thank everyone who supported us with their votes, volunteering, contributions, and kind words of appreciation. I especially want to thank the Friends of the Library, the Dayton Metro Library Staff Association, our financial contributors and the members of the campaign committee who all worked together to keep our library a strong force in the community.
While the funding cuts have made 2009 year full of uncertainties, I have learned that we can count on the hundreds of thousands of people who use the Dayton Metro Library. It has been wonderful to hear so many stories about how the library has touched the lives of our neighbors. You stayed with us when we have to cut back on buying new books, when we needed to close some days to balance the budget and while we went through some of our toughest funding challenges.
Without Issue 40, library services would have faced catastrophic cuts at a level never before seen in MontgomeryCounty. While this levy is not enough to make up for all the revenue lost due to state funding cuts, the passage of Issue 40 provides the library more stable funding than we have had in several years. 2010 will still require us to run a lean library operation, but thanks to our supporters we have a better chance to keep the doors open, continue to purchase up-to-date books, provide Internet access and offer enriching activities for all ages.
On behalf of the entire staff of the Dayton Metro Library, I want to thank the community for their support and faith in the library. I promise that we will continue to work hard to offer a library that is worthy of your amazing support.
Tim Kambitsch
Executive Director
DaytonMetro Library
On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Dayton Metro Library, I would like to thank all the people who have supported the library. The success of Issue 40 allows the library to continue our tradition of books, programs and services for all ages. We still face some challenging times but we now face them on much stronger financial footing.
We could not have succeeded without the many volunteers and supporters who worked so hard to get the library message out. There are too many people to thank them all by name, but a few merit special attention. Our long time supporters, the Friends of the Library, were there from the beginning with encouragement and donations when they were needed the most. The Dayton Metro Library Staff Association was a source of immeasurable assistance to the campaign, providing dedicated volunteers and crucial financial assistance. Our campaign committee spent untold hours planning and working tirelessly to pass Issue 40. And special recognition must go to our Executive Director, Tim Kambitsch, who worked day and night to keep everything together while still running a busy library.
Most of all, I would like to thank the community who has supported the library in so many ways. I and the other members of the Board of Trustees look forward to many more years of offering this community the excellent library service it deserves.

*Schedule of Closings* Furlough Days & Wage Freeze Saves Library $1.5 Million
The Dayton Metro Library’s Board of Trustees approved a package of cuts that will save the library approximately $1.5 million over the course of a year. All employees will take five unpaid furlough days this year and two next year. The furlough means that every branch library, including the Main Library, will be closed a total of five days between now and the end of November. The libraries will be closed every other Thursday, half of them closed one week and half closed the other. Additionally, the Main Library will not open on Sundays this year.
